today in Talking to Non-Fandom People
(an abridged account)
“So, how was your day today?”
“Is Star Trek still in cinemas? Then I was on a forum bitching about it.”
“…uhuh.”
“You probably should stop asking, especially since I’ve been doing this for the fifth consecutive time now.”
“Fifth consecutive time that I know of.”

Sleepy Hollow - Ichabod Crane wakes up in the 21st century. There’s John Cho!
Almost Human - Karl Urban is the human cop with robot parts; Michael Ealy is his android partner with human ~feels~

Amy Adams
seeing the ‘Man of Steel’ trailer for the umpteenth time, it still cracks me up that Amy Adams is Lois Lane only because I do still remember she is Jody the fat-sucking vampire in Smallville. I still like her then, I still like her now. if no one brings this up in the interviews, i will be mad disappoint. :P

Movie Review: Star Trek: Into Darkness
Basically return to form of the first one, with the action keyed up to 11. Some character beats, but as always, this will always be the “EXTREME!” version of the characters. That’s fair, but I’d like to be paid pots of money for my Star Trek fanfic too. Cumberbatch is compelling enough to be an original character, and if the decision to not make him so was to circumvent the...

Movie review: Oblivion
It’s from the director from Tron: Legacy, so here’s what to expect: gorgeous visual tableaus, leisurely pace and a score from a French electronic music band with an ear for the epic. It’s better than T:L in that whatever you feel about Tom Cruise, he’s a capital-m Movie capital-s Star with the charisma to sell you the story, in a way Garret Hedlund didn’t quite have...

Collins, Jose Medina, F.G. Selgas, bell hooks) have warned against this facile privileging of the oppressed ‘position’ as some authentic & pre-theoretical standpoint. calling...
